Hi there!
My name is Monika, which you probably already know, considering what page we're on 😄 I'm the type of person who, on one hand, can order the same dish for the 101st time at the same restaurant, but on the other hand, I packed up with my husband into 3 suitcases, 2 backpacks, and moved to the United States, a country I had never been to before.
As you can see, I tend to make my sentences a bit too long, but I'm working on it... with varying results 🫣
Since the move, we've only managed to explore a few nearby cities. There's still so much ahead of us. Our American adventure began in Fort Wayne, Indiana 🌽
As for other travels, in 2019, thanks to a student exchange, I visited Japan. I returned there in 2020 to carry out a research project for my master's thesis. Unfortunately, the pandemic messed up my plans, and I didn't get to visit Kyoto or Hiroshima, but this year I'll be going back (hopefully without any government-organized chartered flights), and a few new pins will be added to my map 😊
I'm a biomedical engineering grad, and I love projects that mix IT with medicine.
My first job wasn’t directly in this field, but IoT devices are used in hospitals, too. We don’t even have to go that far - just think of a smartwatch counting steps. That job really made me fall for Python, and I look back on it with a lot of good memories.
Still, I wanted something more in line with biomedical engineering. Chemistry was always my favorite subject, so when the chance to work with Selvita, a company focused on drug discovery, came up, I jumped at it. I got to keep working with Python, and as a full-stack developer (Django & Angular), I worked on Electronic Laboratory Notebook.
Now, I’m still working with 🐍, but lately, C has been taking the spotlight. To paraphrase The Little Prince: "You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed" - on my planet, it’s specifically for the memory that’s been dynamically allocated.
In my free time, I love watching "high-quality" films, like Netflix shows such as Love is Blind and Married at First Sight. And just to be clear, French films and books aren't really my thing! And I’ve got a few memes I find hilarious. It’s a shame there isn’t a Docker Humor tool that installs a set that always works. But I’ll give it a go 🤞.
